Question : HC was working fine, but suddenly it has stopped working. When I try to add domain, create new FTP account or use Directory Manage, HC stops responding and goes in indefinite loop.
Answer : This problem appears on the machines where Norton Antivirus 2000/2002 is installed. Norton Antivirus has a new script blocking function (Script Blocking Service) for detecting script-based viruses before antivirus definitions are created for them. When HC performs system level activity through ASP scripts, Norton Script Blocking blocks part of the script from execution, which results in failure of the operation.
SOLUTION
In most cases just stopping the ScriptBlocking Service and disabling Script Blocking in Norton Options settings solves the problem. If disabling Script Blocking doesn't help, you need to uninstall Norton 2000/2002 and install Norton Antivirus Corporate Edition which doesn't carry script blocking feature.
Disable Script Blocking Service:
-
To open Services, click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel. Double-click Administrative Tools, and then double-click Services.
-
Find ScriptBlocking services, Right-click the service, and then click and then click Properties. On the General tab, under Startup, click Disabled.
-
Under Service Status, click Stop button. Click Apply button.
Disable Script Blocking In Norton Settings:
-
Start Norton Antivirus.
-
Click Options. If a menu appears when you click Options, then click Norton Antivirus. The Norton Antivirus Options dialog box appears.
-
Click Script Blocking.
-
Uncheck Enable Script Blocking (recommended).
-
Click OK
